Education
Wade H. Bowie, II graduated in 2001 with a BS in Criminal Justice from Washburn University (Topeka, KS) and from Washburn University School of Law (Topeka, KS) in 2004. While in law school, Wade worked as a receiving clerk for the Kansas Clerk of the Appellate Courts, as a law clerk for a local defense attorney, and participated in the Washburn Law Clinic. Wade was admitted to practice law in the State of Kansas and United States District of Kansas in April of 2005.
Career
In May of 2005, Wade started his legal career as a contract attorney representing parents in child abuse and neglect cases in Shawnee County. In September of 2005, Wade relocated to Iola to accept a position as an Assistant County Attorney in Allen County. In January of 2011, Wade was appointed Allen County Attorney and was later elected to the same position in 2012. In January of 2012, Wade was also appointed Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Iola, Kansas and served in that capacity until resigning in December of 2014.
Role as County Attorney
Wade H. Bowie, II, has been the Coffey County Attorney since October 2018, when he was appointed by the Coffey County Republican Committee. Wade is a career prosecutor committed to community safety and offender accountability and is pleased to bring his experience to the citizens of Coffey County.
Role as County Prosecutor
As the elected prosecutor for Allen County, Wade handled a variety of cases including juvenile matters (child abuse and neglect/juvenile delinquency), misdemeanors, felonies, the care and treatment of mentally ill, and civil forfeiture work. During his time as a prosecutor, Wade also earned the reputation as a strong and passionate advocate for children. As a result, Wade was recruited by the Neosho County Attorney in an adjacent county to handle all juvenile cases related to child abuse and neglect from July of 2009 to October of 2012.
Other Involvements / Affiliations
In August of 2013, Wade was sworn in as a member of the State Bar of Michigan. In December of 2014, Wade resigned as Allen County Attorney and relocated to the State of Michigan. In his time in Michigan, Wade remained committed to public service and served as an Assistant Prosecutor in St. Clair County, Michigan and in Wayne County, Michigan. While serving the citizens of Wayne County, Michigan, as an assistant prosecutor, Wade was a part of the Wayne County Sexual Assault Kit Task Force, a special unit of the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office located in Detroit, Michigan. This special unit is responsible for the investigation and vertical prosecution of cold case sexual assaults that are solved through the DNA testing of rape kits that have been stored with the Detroit Police Department. The majority of the cases range between 15 and 25 years in age. Wade was a vital member of a team consisting of prosecutors, detectives, victim advocates and clerical support. As a member of the unit, Wade was responsible for the prosecution of multiple felony capital criminal sexual assault cases.
Awards & Recognition
In 2014, Wade was awarded the Kansas Prosecutor's Community Service Award by the Kansas Prosecutor's Foundation for his extensive efforts made within the local community in addition to his role as a prosecutor. Wade was instrumental in the development and implementation of a functional drug court in Allen County, the purchase and implementation of body-worn head cameras for all area law enforcement, the development and support of an accredited child advocacy center (member of a multi-disciplinary team), and as a guest instructor with the Allen County Sheriff's Department for training on legal issues related to the Kansas Concealed Carry Course.
