Register of Deeds
Notice
Coffey County is now doing E-Recording. For more information, or to get started contact Simplifile at 800-460-5657.
Mission Statement
To provide quality public service to all citizens and preserve all real estate and related documents with professionalism.
Office Function
The Register of Deeds office files and records documents that pertain to real estate. These documents include, but are not limited to, deeds, affidavits, mortgages, assignments, releases, oil and gas leases, agreements, easements, powers of attorney, plats, surveys, real estate related death certificates, and military discharges.
The Register of Deeds also files financing statements or Uniform Commercial Code's (UCC). These would include federal and certain state tax liens, mechanics liens for automobile repair, and liens on fixtures attached to the land such as irrigation equipment.
The Register of Deeds office became the custodian of the rural school records from the disbanded office of County Superintendent. We have student records from the early 1900s and some teacher records.
Open Records
All records in this office are open to the public with the exception of the Kansas Real Estate Sales Validation Questionnaire (SVQ) and military discharges, closed by State Statue.
Unlawful Use of Names Derived from Public Records
K.S.A. 45-230 states in part, (a) No person shall knowingly sell, give or receive, for the purpose of selling or offering for sale any property or service to person listed therein, any list of names and addresses contained in or derived from public records.
