Museum & Historical Society
For cultural pursuits, the Coffey County Museum and Historical Society has over 14,000 square feet of display space that features one of the largest antique doll collections in the state of Kansas. Other notable features include a restored 1896 One Room Country Schoolhouse, a restored 1895 Country Church, and a restored Conestoga Wagon. Coffey County Arts Council
For art lovers, the Coffey County Arts Council brings artists and performers to the county from across the nation.
Recreation
USD 244 Recreation Center
The USD 244 Recreation Center, located in Burlington, is available for the young and old alike. It offers a weight room, an indoor track, locker rooms, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, a heated indoor 6 lane pool that's open year round, and activity rooms. An outdoor aquatic park offers family fun in the hot summer months.
Parks
City parks and lakes throughout the county offers plenty of recreational activities and acres of space for relaxation. Burlington's Kelley Park offers a large picnic area, a playground area for the children to play while you enjoy a game of horseshoes or other recreational activities. It's also the site of the Coffey County Fair, the longest consecutive fair in Kansas, is held every July. For golfers, Coffey County has private golf course.
Hunting & Fishing
Awaiting beyond our highways are thousands of acres of hunting and fishing areas with an ideal habitat for a variety of game just waiting for energetic enthusiasts. City lakes and the Neosho River offer local fishing and recreation in many of our communities.
John Redmond Reservoir
John Redmond Reservoir is located on the Neosho River, three miles north and one mile west of Burlington. Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking and sightseeing are just a few of the activities to be experienced. Located at the north end of John Redmond Reservoir is the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge. This 18,500-acre refuge provides a diverse habitat that is a haven for an assortment of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
Coffey County Lake
Coffey County Lake provides a golden opportunity for the "serious angler." For current lake conditions, please call 620-364-2475. The facility is open for boats and shoreline fishing from the lakes' public access area only. The lake is home to many species of fish including walleye, white bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, wipers, channel cats, blue cats, flatheads, carp and drum, as well as other predator species. Wolf Creek Environmental Education Area
The Wolf Creek Environmental Education Area is an official outdoor wildlife learning site and offers an opportunity to learn about the nature of eastern Kansas. The area was created to help visitors, especially children, learn about the environment. Three self-guided trails provide a first-hand view of wildlife, water, forests and grasslands.
Healthcare
Coffey Health System, formerly Coffey County Hospital, is available for any medical need, with a wide range of in-patient and out-patient services. Included services are a Mobile MRI Unit, a Mobile Cat Scan Unit, professional staffing and state-of-the-art technology. The hospital also has rural clinics located in Gridley, LeRoy and Waverly. A private clinic is located in Lebo. Local medical professionals in Coffey County includes: 6 physicians, 7 physician assistants, 4 dentists and 3 optometrists.
Both short and long-term nursing home/assisted living facilities are located in the county.
- Sunset Manor is a division of Coffey Health System, is located in Waverly.
- Life Care Center of Burlington is a "skilled nursing facility with a homelike atmosphere."
- The Meadows, a division of Coffey Health System, is located in Burlington. The Meadows is designed as an alternative lifestyle for seniors who want the convenience of their independence without the responsibility of a home. There is plenty to do with a full-time recreation director on staff to assist with many activities.
Each community has its own active Senior Citizen Center.
Coffey County Emergency Medical Service, a division of Coffey Health System, has been a part of Coffey County medical services since the mid-1970s. It is a full paramedic service with 3 EMS units and a rescue vehicle. One full-time crew is on duty 24 hours a day. Contact can be made quickly through the 911 system. First Responder volunteers are found throughout the county.
Libraries
Since 1990 a county-wide building program has provided excellent library facilities in each of Coffey County's communities: Burlington, Gridley, Lebo, LeRoy, New Strawn, and Waverly.
